Gourmet Cheeses

A Sampling of our Cheeses with Lauren's Recommended Wine Pairings
Prairie Breeze from Milton Creamery, Iowa

This multi-award-winning Iowa cheddar is made from hand-milked cows from the nearby Amish community. Aged for a minimum of nine months, it is a crumbly, hybrid-style Alpine Cheddar with a perfect blend of sweet & nutty, with a sassy, medium-sharp finish.

Lauren's Recommended Pairings:
A perfect cheese to round-out a cheese tray. Eat with Cabernet, Syrah, or French Chardonnay.
Drunken Goat from Spain

This semi-soft, artisan goat milk cheese has been soaked in red wine for 2-3 days, giving the outside of the cheese a thin, edible purple rind. Not too mild or strong, the Drunken Goat is a sure crowd pleaser. It has just a hint of sweetness and a sassy, sharp finish.

Lauren's Recommended Pairings: This is a great appetizer cheese which pairs perfectly with Spainish Roija, a South American Malbec, Italian Montepulciano, or domestic fruity red like Merlot or Zinfandel.
Smoked Gouda from Holland

Smoked slowly in ancient, brick ovens over smoldering hickory chip embers, this sausage shaped cheese has an edible, brown rind and a creamy, yellow interior. It is perfect for impromptu picnics, party platters, or midnight snacks.

Lauren's Recommended Pairings: Best beer pairings are: Brown or Pale Ales, Porters, and Stouts.  Best wine pairings: Champagne, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Beaujolais. For a pairing on the rocks, try Scotch or Brandy.

Boursin from France

Boursin cheese, mild and creamy, was originally created in 1957 by Mr. François Boursin in the Normandy region of France. Chefs all over the world use this triple-cream cheese as an ingredient in numerous dishes from appetizers to entrees. Spreadable and smooth, and traditionally made with cow's milk, our Boursin style is flavored with garlic.

Lauren's Recommended Pairings:
A light and crisp Picpoul or Pinot Gris pair great with Boursin. If you're a red drinker, try a Beaujolais or domestic Pinot Noir.

Jarlsberg from Norway
A mild, semi-soft, part skim cheese made from cow's milk. It has a buttery, rich texture with a  mild, nutty flavor characterized by large, round holes. It is an all-purpose cheese, good for cooking, and great on snack trays with fresh grapes.

Lauren's Recommended Pairings:
Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, or a fruity Chardonnay.
